Dating, the courtship rite, this search for happy, intimate relationship with another human being, seems to be far more difficult for some people than others. Some meet their mate fairly early in life and live happily ever after. Some may be involved for years, then find themselves single again, by choice or chance. Others, like myself, have never been married, and find themselves, somewhat late in life, still in search of a happy, lasting relationship, and have not given up. Dating is both easier and more difficult as one gets older. With experience comes confidence, but also scar tissue.
But no matter what your age or situation, dating often sucks, and there can be a lot of heartache along the path. Over time, we hopefully learn to make better choices, but the learning curve is often steep and rocky. Men and women are undeniably different, have different views of courtship and love, so the challenge is built-in. I have no doubt this is a universal, cross-cultural problem. Dating issues in China, for example, are probably quite different from those in the United States, and all cultures have their own rites and rules. But the goal is the same.
So welcome to Datingsux.com. Despite the negative sound of the site name, the ultimate purpose is altruistic and optimistic. It’s an attempt to find answers for myself, and to share them with others. Perhaps through the sharing of our experiences, we can get better at this, learn something, avoid the mistakes of others, and get what we want, whatever that may be.
